Gauze swabs

General

Gauze swabs are manufactured from 100% absorbent cotton to ensure a high level of absorbency and softness, gauze swabs are used to clean out and protect minor lesions, wounds, scrapes and abrasions and also used to absorb blood and other bodily secretions.
Sterile
gauze swabs are non-adhesive and sterilized, so they can be placed directly over the wound. Sterile Gauze Swabs are usually sterilized using gamma Irradiation and Ethylene Oxide, Sterile gauze swabs are bleached using hydrogen peroxide with demineralized water. Non-sterile gauze swabs are also available in various thickness as per purchase order.
Just as most gauze products,
gauze swabs are ideal for one time use and are discarded post use as medical waste. Gauze swabs are available with both X-ray detectable and undetectable. And should an x-ray detectable gauze swab is left in a body cavity, it can easily be identified, located and extracted. In an invasive, surgical setting, the x-ray detectable variant should be used.
The classic
gauze swabs often come with cut edges folded in square or rectangular without fraying edges to prevent residual fiber deposition, and available in various sizes and thread yarns and meshes.
Gauze swabs are widely used for both professional and consumer needs, in hospitals or clinics, and they are an essential item for any first aid kit.
Gauze mesh is associated with the density of the cotton that the gauze swabs are made from. A higher mesh count signifies higher density of the gauze. Gauze yarn relates to the fineness (or coarseness) of the swab. An elevated yarn count is indicative of courser threads. Gauze ply refers to the number of layers that compose the gauze swab. Increased ply equates to increased thickness,
Gauze swabs are often available in pre-packaged boxes to sustain hygiene.

Related information

A gauze swab is a common tool used in the medical field and is found in most first aid kits. It is a white, sterile piece of material that is primarily made of cotton and is commonly used along with an antibacterial cream or ointment to clean and cover open cuts or wounds. Gauze is generally distributed in prepackaged singles that frequently contain two sterilized gauze swabs.
When one is administering gauze, it is essential that the swabs remain uncontaminated while the package is being opened and the swabs are being applied to the wound. Before opening a package of gauze swabs, one should first wash his or her hands thoroughly with soap and water. When opening a package of gauze swabs, one should firmly grasp the corner of the package and tear the corner of the package, ensuring that the corner of the gauze swab is also grasped and simply pull the corner of the package away from the rest while grasping the corner of the gauze between the corner edges of the package. After the gauze has been removed from the package without it being directly touched, it can be then used to clean a small wound or cut. If touching the gauze swab cannot be avoided, only the corner of the swab should be touched, to ensure that the sections making direct contact with the open wound remain germ-free.
Any
gauze swabs that are required for the long-term care of an injury should be changed frequently. If a gauze swab appears to be wet or dirty, it is best for it to be replaced with a new sterilized swab. After a swab has been used or contaminated, it should be disposed of in a sanitary fashio
